There’s more to your well-being than just working out and eating healthy meals. Taking a global look at your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is vital for your overall health. We like to describe this as self-care. Here are some of our favorite practices for self-care.
We may be practicing social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we can’t stay connected! Arrange an online coffee time or happy hour with your friends. Keep topics positive and tell each other something good that happened to you in the last week. Talk about plans for when you can see each other again and how awesome it will be to give them an enormous, warm hug. Together we are better prepared to handle this and can care for each other. That’s what friends are made for!
Follow a Flexible Routine
Craft a schedule for your yourself but allow for some flexibility. For one thing, get up around the same time in the morning and get in bed around the same time every night. Write down your goals for the day and schedule your work tasks, but make some time for your daily workout, a walk outside, or to dig into your favorite book. Don’t be too harsh with your agenda that you create unnecessary stress. Creating a balance between a program and leisure will help you have a more useful and enjoyable day.
Thankfulness is good for anyone. The more gratitude we display to others during troubled times, the better and tougher we become. Give others grace. One of our most treasured ways to exercise gratitude is to call a loved one and let them know how much you cherish them. A a written note is also a refreshing and unexpected surprise that is sure to make a person’s day.
There’s not a thing better than spending time outdoors, taking in the fresh air. Take a stroll with your pet or family every day after lunch. Call hello to your neighbors (from a physical distance) and see how they’re doing. Stay in the sunshine for a bit and start taking deep breaths—you will feel so much better!
Just because we can’t go out for food at a restaurant doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a good meal! Try a new method for dinner and make your meals count. Listen to your favorite song, get the whole family involved, and have a fun time with it!
